UK MPG Calculator

Calculate UK miles per gallon from miles travelled and litres of fuel used.

UK units

MPG means UK (imperial) miles per gallon. Fuel-price calculations use pence per litre and are estimates based on the figures entered. After calculating MPG, you can carry the result into the Trip Fuel Cost Calculator to estimate a journey's fuel cost.

About UK MPG Calculator

UK MPG Calculator works out miles per gallon from distance travelled in miles and fuel used in litres. It divides miles by the number of UK gallons used, where one UK imperial gallon equals 4.546 litres.

How to use UK MPG Calculator

  1. Enter distance travelled in miles.
  2. Enter fuel consumed in litres (from pump receipt).
  3. Click Calculate to compute UK MPG efficiency.
  4. Compare UK MPG result with Litres per 100km (L/100km).

Examples

Distance: 300 miles, Fuel: 30 litres Result: 45.46 UK MPG (6.25 L/100km)

FAQ

Why is UK MPG different from US MPG?

UK Imperial gallons are 20% larger than US liquid gallons (4.546 litres vs 3.785 litres), resulting in higher UK MPG figures for identical fuel efficiency.

How do I measure actual fuel efficiency?

Fill your fuel tank to full, reset trip computer, drive normally, refill to full, and enter trip miles and refill litres.

How do I calculate UK MPG?

Divide miles travelled by litres used divided by 4.546. For example, 300 miles using 30 litres is 300 / (30 / 4.546) = 45.46 UK MPG.
